Another day being not quite free

Was dropped in down town Sacramento. Walked aimlessly for an hour or so in the  cold morning breeze. Nice park with large sequo…….. trees, a rose garden and a Vietnam war memorial. The Rose Garden was littered with little plaques exhorting the value of peace, the war memorial had statues of men with guns. Those who died were so young. Filo wanted somewhere warmer so eventually found Coffee shop. So, after peeing and warming up, we decided to use this wonderful app on a telephone which we have been loaned.

Ubber is a cooperative car ride (Taxi type) service where drivers use their own cars to respond to requests through a centralized software app over the phone.

So I engage in a dialogue ……….

Telephone —-  Please enter your destination.

Me ——  ‘6002 Front Road.’

Telephone —-  ‘What type of service, please select.’

Me ——-  ‘UbberX Please.’

Telephone —–  ‘Your ride will cost $6.02.  Please confirm.’

Me —– ‘Confirmed.’

WAIT ……….WAIT………… an very long WAIT

Telephone  ——-   ‘Your operating system does not support this product please update your operating system!!!’

So that worked then.

We phone Filo’s son who takes us to Old Sacramento. Loved it, will go back and take photos. In lots of high quality touristy shops  I take note of the quality brands of some of the things Filo wants to buy. Later, I order them on Amazon saving a goodly sum. Well, I suppose that it  is people like me who will be the demise of the local shops. Shame really, but the restaurants will remain. Had a good Mexican feed, too much food. Noticed that most of our fellow male eaters were very fat, I mean very very fat. Looked like giant English plumbers from a local trailer park. No, even bigger than that. Before going home discovered the train museum and the history museum for a later visit.

Hey, I thought that the river boats were on the Mississippi. Not the ‘Delta King’ she’s here on the Sacramento River.

I have not seen an indigenous American; you know, the ones we knew as Red Indians when we were kids. They are here though. I know this because a Full chieftains headdress complete with eagle feathers, beavers tails and a myriad of little beads can be purchased for $500 ($469.25 really} (Hand made by a Navajo, pronounced the Spanish way). That they are illusive skilled trackers seems not to be a myth. I remember that Kevin and I had a similar difficulty  trying to capture working gauchos on camera. None-the-less I shall persevere.
